Ashtanga Yoga Basics: A Beginner’s workshop

with Andrea de la Madriz

Saturday March 25: 2:00-4:30 pm

Sunday March 26: 2:00-4:00 pm

The true journey into yoga begins with a desire to live a more peaceful life and find true happiness. The bond that keeps every teacher and student of yoga coming back to their mats to practice is the inner connection between breath, body, mind and spirit. Yoga is a door to a state of inner peace that usually get lost amidst the constant flow of external stimulus, too much information, daily obligations and responsibilities. If you are new to yoga or always wanted to give it a try but did not know how?...this Beginner's workshop is for you.

Over the course of the two sessions, Andrea will cover the basic elements and building blocks of this transformative practice. Exploring history, lineage, and breath connection, this workshop will be suitable for any practitioner new to Ashtanga Yoga. We will focus on the importance of the Surya Namaskara's which open the doorway for all the other patterned movements in this practice. Some standing and seated postures will be curiously explored together as well, providing a beautiful platform upon which to launch into a Mysore practice. The workshop will end with a deep relaxation at the sound of himalayan crystal bowls.

Level 1: Basic/Open

Workshop Price: $65 (both sessions); $40 (one session). Payments are non-refundable.

Bonus: register for this workshop (both sessions) and receive 1 free Mysore session with Andrea (value $20). Free session must be used within 15 days after the workshop.

Creating Lightness: An Inversion and Arm Balance Master Class

with Joan Varini

Saturday, March 18th 2-4pm

All levels

Inversions and arm balances are touted to have profound benefits ranging from immune system strengthening, healthier lung tissue, more efficient blood circulation, enhance spinal mobility, reduce back pain, improve posture, enhance core, back, arm and shoulder strength, improve mental awareness, calm the mind, relieve stress, improve digestion and elimination, relieve depression and reverse the signs of aging.

In this workshop we will explore the key alignment principals of inversions and arm balance poses, inviting us to courageously and safely glean the benefits of these powerful postures. We will work through core strengthening, preparatory poses and partner assisted drills to enhance our awareness of head-below-the-heart poses such as headstand, forearm-stand and handstand as well as exploring various playful arm balances.

Although certain conditions restrict the practice of inversions, regardless of experience level, all yogis are encouraged to attend. Modifications will be given, enabling everyone to develop the awareness of how to properly balance and invert the body. As we safely defy gravity and and enjoy the pleasure of being upside down, this physical metaphor will help us become more in-tune with a holistic sense of personal light-less.

Price $35 ($40 at the door). Bring a yoga mat, towels and water. Free Parking.

Become the Master of Your Mind: Live the Life of Your Soul’s Desire

with Joan Varini

Saturday and Sunday, May 6 & 7

2-5 pm

Yoga offers many techniques for self realization, most of which are based on becoming aware of and controlling the mind. In Yoga we are taught that we are not our thoughts. But how do we move from unconscious living to creating the life we desire? In this two-session program, we will learn how to find freedom from negative habits and thought patterns by learning how to witness our conscious and subconscious mind. We will learn techniques to create the life we desire through loving acceptance of who we are and learn how to surrender to the wisdom of our higher selves.

The structure of this program is a personal journey of accountability and awareness from the physical to the non-physical. We will learn to ‘be’ and honor the wisdom in the present moment and anchor in the physical body through gentle movements and breathing techniques. From there we will work through the layers of the aura, addressing each aspect of our being from our mental body to our emotional and spirit body, unraveling each layer to undo what is restricting us from creating a loving relationship with our soul. In this weekend program, we will experience more comfort in our inner landscape through guided visualizations and other exercises designed to help us become aware of and release what his hindering our personal growth and inner peace. We will learn how to become the co-creator of our lives through the personal practice of self-analysis, meditation and the simple yet liberating act of learning to trust our intuition and becoming our own best friend.

Saturday May 6, 2-5 pm: “Let Go of Unconscious Living”

Sunday May 7, 2-5 pm: “Create the Life You Desire”
